This image is not a photograph of cirrus clouds! It is generated from VIL data. The VIL was scanned overhead across the wind to form a series of 2-D images. The wind profile was obtained with a local radiosonde measurement. This wind profile was used to assemple the 2-D images into a 3-D volume image. A ray tracing program was used to generate this visualization. The physical dimensions of the data volume are 234.4 km x 161.5 x 7.1 km.
